February Pastor’s Message
THE AMAZING LOVE OF GOD
February is the LOVE month. It is a time when a young man’s fancy, and I guess
a young girl’s too, turns to romantic love. Ah, love! It has sold more flowers, cards and
candy than the Easter bunny could ever imagine.
True love matures beyond the cards, candy and flowers. It settles into a deep
and abiding relationship built upon mutual respect and tender affection. Mature love has the
other person as the object of greatest care and concern.
First Corinthians chapter thirteen tells us that love tolerates much without boiling
over in anger. Neither is love rude or hateful even when circumstances might warrant it.
Love is not selfish especially when there is something to be shared with a loved one. In
fact love will usually choose the smallest half of anything that is shared.
Love is resilient. It keeps bouncing back beyond the bumps and bruises so that it
might retain the object or person loved. Love is slow to believe any story or slander
against it’s loved one. A slanderous thing may be true but love simply will not believe it
without ample proof and even then love seeks to learn extenuating circumstances as to
the cause. That is why we often say that love is blind. Well, love is not blind it is simply
focused intently upon the loved one. Love is always ready to believe the best of a person.
Love wants the very best for its loved one. God’s love motivated him to sacrifice
His only Son so that He might gain the object of His love – me and you. That is truly an
amazing thing! It is a love beyond any to which we have yet attained.
John 3:16-17
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world
through him might be saved. KJV
